DAY 1: MARRAKECH - Tichka pass 2260m - Ait ben Haddou AROUMD - Marrakech

Visit the Taouirt Kasbah, former residence of the Glaoui, the last sultan of the Atlas before stopping for lunch in Ouarzazate. On the return journey you will stop for photo opportunities at one of the most beautiful ksours (fortified villages) of the Moroccan South.

Ait Ben Haddou has been restored by UNESCO and is on the World Heritage List, a red-earth medieval village which appears to be lost in time. The desert of Ouarzazate has appeared in many feature films including Lawrence of Arabia, Star Wars, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Babel.

Essential Equipments:

  • Good walking boots and socks

  • Water bottle or camel back (recommended)
  • Water purification e.g. iodine
  • Day sack/backpack
  • Sleeping bag (3-4 season); plus thermal liner in winter
  • Scarf to wrap around your head in a sandstorm
  • Personal items: towel, sunscreen, wet wipes, loo roll
  • Toiletries that are eco-friendly e.g. soap, shampoo etc.
  • Small First Aid Kit e.g. insect repellent, plasters, meds

    Meals: You will have the opportunity to enjoy typically Moroccan meals (tajine, couscous,.). Fresh products, canned food as a complement, meat bought in the mountains. Picnic or salads for lunch, hot ready-cooked meals for dinner. 
    We use a big tent to preparing the meals, and a mess tent to eat. The water flows out from the mountains is very pure but you should treat it otherwise to use bottle water instead of water from the sourse .

    Travel inside of morocco: For transfers between Marrakech and the starting or end point of the hike, we use minibuses or four-wheel drive vehicles or taxis depends on size of the group. During the days of the trek , mules or camels carry the luggage.
